Krang in Space

TONIGHT, Krang will be appearing on Borscht in Space, live on CJSR at 7:06 p.m. Hosted by the radiant Angela Mason (who also snapped the photo above), Krang will help steer this ship into psychedelic oblivion. Playing of jazz-rock fusion records haw been bandied about, mostly in my head. And mostly after listening to Weather Report on the weekend.

Tune in, tune out, re-tune.

Psychedelic stew

Here's what White Whale recording artist Eamon McGrath (who also lent his talents in recording and mixing our latest EP) had to say about Krang:

"Edmonton, Alberta's KRANG is a behemoth of sorts: a monstrous, slithering trainwreck of bass, drums, distortion, stewing in a pit of dehydrated psychedelic stew. The sound of Black Sabbath and Hawkwind filtered through the 90s lo-fi 4-track revolution, with a lunatic noise wizard at the helm steering the spaceship into oblivion. If you took the deformed, inbred brainchild of Wolf Eyes, Guided By Voices, and Sunn0))) you might be getting close to the mutated monstrosity that is KRANG...but even then, you'd be in some distant land, wandering through the desert, tempted by Satan, sucking on some pebble in hopes of pathetically seeing it all through.

"They Came From Planet D" is KRANG's first Cassettes Records offering, recorded live off the floor in an attic somewhere in the frozen winter labyrinth of downtown Edmonton. This is the feeling of being cooped up in a season. "Sometimes," says Parker James Thiessen, assigned to commandeering KRANG's barrage of digital noise and destruction; "when we jam, it's so loud, that I see spots when we're done."

Well if that ain't mean, I don't know what is."

Thanks Eamon.

They Came From Planet D

A couple of quotes from the MC of the MacEwan University talent show after our performance...

"A blast from the past!"

"Post-psychedelic craziness!"

Our new EP They Came From Planet D is ready to go! Just waiting on album art - look for it in March. Recorded by Eamon McGrath for Cassettes Records.

You can find new tracks here.

Down the highway, there's an endangered ape

It's confirmed! KRANG will be heading down to Lethbridge March 5, 6 and 7 to record a 7'' with Paul Lawton at Mammoth Cave Recordings.

A million thanks bestowed upon Paul - not only is he puttin' KRANG on vinyl, but he scored us a couple gigs as well. Extinct Lethbridge garage rock crew Endangered Ape has moved back to the"endangered" list. KRANG will be joining the bill for the Apes reunion, along with the likes of Sharp Ends, Fist City, Bikeland - March 5 @ Broken City (Calgary) and March 6 @ GCBCs (Lethbridge).

KRANG is playing the MacEwan University talent show THIS THURSDAY (Jan. 21) at 5:30 p.m. at the Centre for the Arts Campus on Stony Plain Road and 156 street (phew, that's a lot of conjunctions).

In the meantime, please...enjoy.

Best of Kanadiana

The end of another year means one thing, and one thing alone: top ten lists!

KRANG has somehow been included in a top ten list of the Best of Local/Kanadiana of 2009, on the Lethbridge blog Midnight Social. The list includes a slew of great bands (Mount Analogue, Moby Dicks, Sharp Ends), many of whom we played with in 2009.

We are just waiting for the finishing touches on our new EP (with guitar), which will be released on Eamon McGrath's Cassettes Records. In March, we are heading down to Mammoth Cave Recordings in Lethbridge to work on a 7'' with Paul and the gang.

Thanks to Sleepy Head and Midnight Social for thinkin' of li'l ol' KRANG.
